Recalling the old days, the Delhi CM said, "When I contested the Delhi University elections in 1994-95, the entire village was stunned. Jai Bhagwan's daughter is contesting the elections. Which election, college elections. My mother was very upset. Father and my uncle said that yes, it is okay, if the party is making me contest then I should contest the elections. Mother used to say that if you spoil the girl, you will wear out your shoes. Who will marry her?

After scolding me, my mother used to give me roti to eat as well- Rekha Gupta

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta further said, "I have moved forward after facing so many scoldings. First election, second election. After scolding, she used to say at night that Bhaiya, eat your roti. She used to press clothes and give them to me. The whole family used to be involved in the elections and in this way, I fought two university elections, three municipal corporation elections and three assembly elections. I fought eight elections and I am happy that I got a lot of support from my entire family and society.

Everyone supported me a lot in contesting the elections- Rekha Gupta

She also said, "Everyone from here kept coming to Delhi and supported me with full strength in every election. My phones would ring before me, wherever I went people would say your uncle called, your maternal uncle called, your so-and-so relative called, so every single person from Haryana supported me whenever I contested elections in Delhi. I thank everyone very much through this platform, I salute them."
