On this auspicious occasion, devotees take a holy dip in holy rivers including the Ganges. After this, they perform Jalabhishek and worship of Mahadev, the God of Gods .
A large number of devotees chant the name of Shiva and meditate on the banks of the river Ganga. On the Amavasya date, offerings and pinddaan to ancestors are also performed. After the puja, devotees donate according to their financial status.
There is a religious belief that by donating on Amavasya Tithi, the blessings of Mahadev are showered on the devotee. Also, the effect of inauspicious planets in the horoscope is eliminated. Also, one gets freedom from Pitra Dosh. If you also want to please your ancestors, then donate these things after worship and tarpan on the day of Hariyali Amavasya.
Donate these things
- If you want to get rid of Pitra Dosha, then worship Lord Shiva on the day of Hariyali Amavasya. Also, offer tarpan to the ancestors. After the puja, donate things like black sesame, barley, raw rice, chuda (poha), curd, sugar, salt etc.
- To please the ancestors, on the day of Hariyali Amavasya, you can also donate things like umbrella, leather shoes and slippers etc. You can give these things to a deserving Brahmin or the needy in the name of ancestors.
- If you want to get the blessings of your ancestors, donate black sesame seeds or sesame oil in a Shiva temple on the day of Sawan Amavasya. Apart from this, you can also donate white clothes and food for prasadam (offering).
- To eliminate the influence of inauspicious planets in the horoscope, on the day of Hariyali Amavasya, one can donate things like umbrella, shoes, slippers, whole urad, blanket and clothes etc.
- If you want to get the blessings of Mahadev, the God of Gods, then on the day of Sawan Amavasya, after bathing and meditating, anoint Lord Shiva with milk or Ganga water. After this, donate white things. You can donate things like rice, flour, sugar, salt, milk, curd etc.
