News Topical, Digital Desk : The government on Friday blocked links to 242 illegal betting and gambling websites, following a government ban on paid gaming apps in August last year.
Since the Online Gambling Act was passed, over 7,800 illegal betting and gambling websites have been shut down and enforcement actions have increased significantly.
Sources said the action reflects the government's commitment to protect users, especially the youth, and prevent financial and social losses caused by illegal online betting and gambling platforms.
Online gaming has emerged as a serious problem. The World Health Organization has classified gaming disorder as a health condition in its International Classification of Diseases, describing it as a pattern of gaming that is marked by loss of control, neglect of other daily activities, and persistence despite harmful consequences.
Online money-making gaming platforms have caused widespread harm. Families have lost their savings. Young people have become addicted. In some cases, the financial hardship associated with these games has even led to suicide. Recognizing these dangers, the government has taken steps like these.
