Asha Malviya has emerged as a living example of this spirit, who through her bicycle journey has given such a message of women power, patriotism and indomitable courage, which has filled new energy in the hearts of the youth.
To commemorate the 78th Indian Army Day, national level athlete, mountaineer and cyclist Asha Malviya started a 7,800 km long nationwide east-west solo cycling expedition (yatra) from Jaipur, Rajasthan on 11 January 2026.
During this journey, she covered a distance of about 5,700 kilometres, crossing Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand and reached Kolkata, where she was warmly welcomed by NCC cadets and officers on Thursday.
She has already covered approximately 5,700 of the 7,800 kilometers, with her ultimate goal being to reach Kibithu, a border region in Arunachal Pradesh bordering China. This inspirational expedition aims to spread the message of women's empowerment, patriotism, and unwavering courage.
NCC cadets got the opportunity to interact with him directly at a function organised in his honour on Thursday at the NCC Bengal and Sikkim Directorate in Kolkata.
Shared his struggles and experiences of cycling
Here he shared his struggles, difficulties and experiences of adventurous cycling and told the youth that limitations exist only in thinking, not in reality.
During the event, Major General Amar Pal Singh Chahal, Additional Director General (ADG), NCC Bengal and Sikkim Directorate, and the large number of cadets present were deeply impressed by her courage and confidence. Asha Malviya's inspiring address instilled in the cadets a renewed sense of service to the nation, courage, discipline, and excellence.
