News Topical, Digital Desk : A division bench of the Calcutta High Court today granted significant relief to 32,000 primary teachers. The High Court overturned the 2023 teacher recruitment decision and ordered the reinstatement of their appointments.

A two-judge bench of the Kolkata High Court comprising Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty and Justice Ritabrata Kumar Mitra has set aside the order of a single bench which had directed cancellation of appointments of 32,000 primary teachers.

An order was given to cancel the appointment

On May 12, 2023, a single bench of then Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had ordered the cancellation of appointments of 32,000 primary teachers due to alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.

The petitioners had alleged that many low-ranked candidates were given jobs by paying money and many appointments were made without proper interviews or to untrained candidates.

The court changed its decision

A division bench of the Calcutta High Court overturned a single bench order, upholding the jobs of 32,000 teachers. The decision came in the context of a wider case involving alleged irregularities in teacher recruitment in Bengal.
