News Topical, Digital Desk : A week after the US B-2 bombers dropped 30,000 pound 'bunker busters' on three nuclear sites in Iran, the fear of war in West Asia has diminished, but another story has emerged, the silence of Iran's 'friends' China and Russia.

While Iran and Israel moved towards a ceasefire, China and Russia did not provide any military support to Iran in its difficult times. This exposed the truth of the so-called 'Iran-China-Russia friendship'.

Iran was left without support

When Iran was attacked by Israel and the US, neither Beijing nor Moscow offered open support. China only appealed for peace while Russia issued limited diplomatic statements. This made it clear that this 'friendship' was based only on strategic convenience and shared grievances, not on true defence cooperation.

Both Beijing and Moscow prioritise their economic and diplomatic interests. They have been reluctant to openly support Iran, given their Gulf and European partnerships.

What kind of 'friendship' is this?

This so-called alliance was seen as an emerging dangerous group after the Russia-Ukraine war after 2022 and China-Iran trade relations. Iran gave drones to Russia, China bought oil from Iran. But this cooperation remained limited to transactions only.

When the situation of war came, neither Russia gave fighter jets to Iran as promised, nor did China send military equipment. Even the trilateral naval exercise held this year now seems merely symbolic.

America and Israel showed their strength

Iran's Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites were largely destroyed on the orders of US President Donald Trump. According to the International Atomic Agency, the enrichment capacity of these sites has been severely damaged.

Trump said Iran was badly defeated. While Iran's supreme leader Khamenei called it a slap in the face to America. But in reality Iran is now diplomatically surrounded, without any major allies.

Iran at a strategic juncture

Iran now faces two options: rebuild its defense capabilities or resort to diplomacy. China and Russia have only offered verbal support, leaving Tehran to realize that the next time a crisis hits, it will probably be even more isolated.
