News Topical, Digital Desk : Four more people have been arrested in connection with the collapse of a building in Maharashtra's Palghar district this week that killed 17 people. The investigation into the incident has been handed over to the crime branch of the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar police, an official said.

On Wednesday night, a four-storey illegal building named Ramabai Apartment collapsed on an adjacent vacant house in Vijay Nagar in Virar area of ​​Palghar, adjacent to Mumbai. At least 17 people, including two children, died in this incident.

So far five people have been arrested

Senior Inspector Shahuraj Ranavare said that the crime branch has arrested the owner of the land, two women and their husbands who were collecting rent from the people living in the building constructed on it. Police had initially arrested the main accused builder Neetal Sane. With this, five people have been arrested in this case so far.

Maharashtra Minister Pratap Sarnaik has said that the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will provide temporary accommodation to the people of the affected building.

Extremely dangerous buildings should be evacuated immediately

After this incident, the Thane Municipal Corporation has issued orders to immediately vacate 37 extremely dangerous buildings in which 191 families are living. Thane Municipal Corporation chief Saurabh Rao has said in an order issued after a review meeting that after talking to the people, these extremely dangerous buildings should be evacuated immediately.
