News Topical, Digital Desk : The first husband of Jill Biden, wife of former US President Joe Biden, has been charged with murdering his wife, who died in late December at their Delaware home, officials said in a statement on Tuesday.
William Stevenson, 77, of Wilmington, was married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975. Jill Biden married US Senator Joe Biden in 1977.
Stevenson is in jail
Delaware Attorney General spokeswoman Carolyn Harrison confirmed in a phone call that Stevenson is Jill Biden's ex-husband. Jill Biden declined to comment, according to an email response from a spokesperson for the former president and first lady's office. Stevenson remains in jail after failing to post $500,000 bail following his arrest on Monday on a charge of first-degree murder.
What is the matter?
One night, around 11 p.m., a domestic dispute broke out between the two. Police were called to the home upon receiving the information. They found an unconscious woman in the living room. They attempted to revive her, but she was unable to be saved.
Stevenson was charged in a grand jury indictment following a weeks-long investigation by Delaware Department of Justice detectives. It was not immediately clear whether Stevenson has an attorney. He opened the Stone Balloon, a popular music venue in Newark, in the early 1970s.
