What is the story of Tanvi Raina?

Newcomer Shubhangi Dutt plays 21-year-old autistic Tanvi Raina in the film. She and her grandfather, Colonel Pratap Raina (Anupam Kher), and her mother, Vidya (Pallavi Joshi), live in the quiet cantonment town of Lansdowne, Uttarakhand. Tanvi's character is driven by her desire to follow in her father, Captain Samar Raina's (Karan Tacker) footsteps and become a soldier in the Indian Army.

Due to his untimely death, Captain Raina never got the chance to hoist the national flag on the Siachen Glacier, as he had hoped. Tanvi tries to show that despite societal opposition and the military's strict entry requirements, being different doesn't mean you're any less.

Received worldwide praise

Tanvi the Great performed well at international festivals before its OTT release. It screened in London, New York, and Houston, and received a seven-minute standing ovation at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. It was also screened for members of the Indian Armed Forces at the Southern Command and the National Defence Academy in Pune.

When and where will the film stream?

Directed by Anupam Kher, Tanvi The Great will stream on Prime Video starting midnight on March 3. It is making its OTT debut almost eight months after its theatrical premiere in July 2025.

The cast of Tanvi The Great

Shubhangi Dutt, who graduated from Kher's acting school, plays the lead role and is one of the most well-known members of the cast. Kher plays a strict but ultimately supportive grandfather. Jackie Shroff plays Brigadier Joshi. Boman Irani plays a music teacher. Arvind Swami plays Major Srinivasan. Iain Glen and Nasser have good cameos.
