News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump has said that the ongoing conflict could result in the United States gaining control of Iran's oil resources, presenting it as a potential economic benefit in exchange for military action.

Asked about securing Iran's oil, Trump said, "If I had the choice... yes, because I'm a businessman first and foremost." He cited past US actions elsewhere to justify the idea.

I want to make a lot of money from oil.

"But remember, wars last for years. We were there for only 34 days, and we completely destroyed a very powerful country. If it were up to me, I would want to keep the oil. But I don't think the people in the United States will understand that," he said, adding that he would like to take the oil, keep it, and make a lot of money from it.

The example of Venezuela

Drawing a comparison with Venezuela, Trump said that US involvement there has already yielded benefits in the energy sector. He said, "We are partners with Venezuela and we have taken millions of barrels of oil from there. We have already taken over 100 million barrels."

"To the victor goes the prize... That hasn't happened in this country in probably 100 years," Trump said. He argued that securing oil resources could offset the cost of military operations. Referring to Venezuela, he said, "That war cost many times more than that."
