News Topical, Digital Desk : Vinod Kumar Verma and his son Sanskar Verma, who were arrested by Sonbhadra police on Sunday in connection with the codeine-containing cough syrup case, have been arrested before.

In February 2026, the Atarsuia police arrested both accused, residents of Baluaghat. They were subsequently produced before the court, but their remand was not granted.

Now, while investigating the same case, Atarsuia police has also added some sections, which will tighten the legal grip on the accused.

It has been reported that last year, the Food Safety and Drug Administration took action. During this period, a large quantity of syrup was purchased in Ghaziabad in the name of Sanskar Verma's firm. Based on this, the Food Safety and Drug Administration raided his firm.

Father and son are close to Shubham Jaiswal

Vinod and Sanskar were operating their firm here under the name Messrs. Om Sai Pharmaceuticals. Investigations revealed that codeine-containing cough syrup was being supplied illegally.

In Ghaziabad, several bills were found in the name of Sanskar Verma's firm for the purchase of 127650 100 ml vials of codeine-containing cough syrup, for which an FIR was lodged there.

Subsequently, based on the complaint of Drug Inspector Santosh Kumar Patel, the Atarsuiya police registered a case and arrested the father and son. Currently, Atarsuiya Inspector Rammurti Yadav says that the charges have been increased. Both accused will soon be remanded.
