News Topical, Digital Desk : A dispute broke out between a policeman and a woman in Chennai's Thiruvanmiyur area over the issue of feeding and taking care of stray dogs. During the argument with the woman, the policeman said that if she does not feed them, the dogs will 'stop coming on their own'.
The woman claimed that she has been doing this for the past two decades. During the argument with the policeman, the woman made a video on her phone in which the policeman is referring to the molestation incident that happened with the woman's aunt in 2024 and saying that if you walk on the beach at midnight while feeding the dogs, then harassment is certain. If you come to feed the dogs, we will arrest you and take you to the police station.
No action even after complaint
The woman said that despite my repeated complaints, the police did not take any action. The woman also criticized the city authorities for not sterilizing stray dogs under the Animal Birth Control Act. After this, the woman questioned the behavior of the policeman and his right to demand not to feed the animals.
Stray dog numbers on the rise
He said that due to failure of the city authorities to sterilise stray dogs, their numbers had increased in the area and the dogs were also abandoned on the beach.
Condemnation of policeman's statement
According to media outlets, Karthik later claimed that what he meant was that the woman would be arrested if she was seen on the streets after midnight.
This 'clarification' was also condemned as it seemed like he was blaming women for any harassment they face in public places, especially late at night, and taking the responsibility of ensuring safety of citizens away from law enforcement officials. According to reports, no action has been taken against Karthik yet.
