News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid the reduction in crude oil imports due to the ongoing war in West Asia, PM Modi has called "ethanol blending" a game-changer for India's energy security. PM Modi said that by blending ethanol with petrol, India has so far saved 45 million barrels of crude oil imports, resulting in foreign exchange savings.
In fact, during the inauguration of Jewar Airport in Noida on Saturday, PM Modi discussed at length the instability in energy supplies caused by the West Asian conflict and highlighted the importance of India's ethanol blending.
PM Modi said that if ethanol was not mixed in petrol, the country would have to import an additional 45 million barrels of crude oil annually – which is equivalent to 700 crore litres.
PM Modi said that the efforts of farmers have brought significant relief to the country amid the global crisis. Ethanol production has not only benefited the country and farmers, but has also saved approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore in foreign exchange.
India achieved the target before the deadline
India has achieved its E20 target of blending 20% ethanol in petrol ahead of schedule by 2025. This target was set under the Modi government to reduce fuel import bills and reduce emissions.
The total production capacity of India's ethanol sector is now around 2,000 crore litres, of which more than 1,000 crore litres is used for blending with petrol.
No impact on India
PM Modi said that the US-Israel war with Iran has led to a rise in crude oil prices. India has made every effort to secure its supplies and ensure that ordinary people are not affected by the price increase. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure that the general public does not face any difficulties.
