News Topical, Digital Desk : In another major crackdown on corruption in Odisha, the Odisha Vigilance Department has arrested Tusharkant Rai, an executive engineer at Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a contractor in exchange for providing a final inspection report for a transformer.
What is the matter?
According to reports, an electrical contractor had filed a complaint alleging that Tusharkant Rai had been withholding his final inspection report for a transformer installed in an apartment building for the past two months. The contractor could only receive payment for his bill after receiving this report.
Despite repeated requests, the report was not provided. Instead, Rai demanded a bribe of 20,000 rupees. Forced to do so, the contractor contacted the Odisha Vigilance Department.
Vigilance team made a plan
Following the complaint, the vigilance team devised a plan. Late Wednesday night, Tusharkant Rai called the contractor to his home and asked him to hand over the money in a park outside. As soon as the contractor handed over the bribe amount, the vigilance team already present there caught him red-handed. The bribe amount of ₹20,000 was recovered and confiscated.
Raids on locations linked to Rai
After being caught accepting bribes, the vigilance team raided premises linked to Tusharkant Rai. The searches continued throughout the night, and by morning, ₹953,200 in cash was recovered from Rai's home, which was confiscated on the spot.
Following this action, a case has been registered at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station under Case No. 21 dated 24.09.2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018. The investigation is currently ongoing, and it is also being examined whether Rai has previously been involved in any other corrupt activities.
