The student's family alleges that her boyfriend and his relatives pressured her to convert to Islam for marriage, due to which she took this step. The police have taken the accused boyfriend into custody.
What is the whole matter?
The girl, a resident of Kothamangalam, was a student of a teacher training course. On Saturday, she was found hanging from a noose in her house. Initially, the police considered it an unnatural death, but later a suicide note was recovered from the spot. In this note, the girl has accused of physical and mental harassment regarding conversion.
In the suicide note, the victim has clearly mentioned that her boyfriend and his relatives were pressuring her to change her religion. After this, the police took immediate action and arrested the girl's boyfriend. Investigation has been started against him for abetment to suicide and other charges.
Victim's mother's allegation?
The victim's mother is a domestic help. She made a shocking revelation that the accused family had come with a marriage proposal for her daughter and was pressuring her to convert. According to the mother, initially the daughter had agreed to convert due to love, but when she came to know that the accused was also involved in a case related to smuggling, she changed her mind.
The mother claims that her daughter truly loved the accused and was ready to marry him despite the smuggling case, but she had clearly said that she would not change her religion. The mother also alleged that recently the accused had kept her daughter hostage in a room of his house and pressured her to convert. The victim's brother has also alleged that his sister was beaten up and threatened.
Police action
Police have said that the accused will be arrested soon. The officer said that they will find out the truth of the allegations of forced conversion through a thorough investigation.
