News Topical, Digital Desk : According to mythology, during the event of Samudra Manthan, the first poison that came out was Halahal. It could destroy the whole universe. For the welfare of the people, Lord Bholenath drank this poison and held it in his throat. But, due to the effect of the poison, Shiva's throat turned blue.

Due to drinking poison, Bholenath started feeling very hot. Being restless, he moved towards the Himalayas in search of coolness. He sat in meditation for years under a tree at the confluence of Pankaja and Madhumati rivers on the Manikut mountain.

The gods and goddesses anointed Shiva with water to give him coolness. After this, he opened his eyes and went to Kailash. Before going there, this place was named Neelkanth. That is why even today this place is known as Neelkanth Mahadev.
