News Topical, Digital Desk : Dhanbad police have solved the case of a newborn baby stolen from SNMMCH, Dhanbad's largest government hospital, and a deal struck for three lakh rupees. Police have arrested four suspects involved in the theft and recovered the stolen newborn (a boy) safely and handed it over to his parents.

City SP reveals child theft case 

Dhanbad City SP Ritwik Srivastava revealed the newborn theft case at a press conference held at the Saraidhela police station. DSP Naushad Alam and Saraidhela police station in-charge Manjeet Kumar were also present.

The City Superintendent of Police stated that the case is related to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, Ward No. C/II, of SNMMCH Hospital. The victim, Sarita Devi, wife of Shaligram Marandi, a resident of Bhelve village (Maniyadih police station), gave birth to a newborn baby on Thursday (December 25, 2025). 

This information came to light during police investigation

The newborn was stolen from the hospital on the night of December 27th. On Sunday (December 28th), Saraidhela Police Station Case No. 267/2025 was registered in the matter. Police investigation revealed that Abhilasha Singh desperately wanted a child. Due to this need, she conspired with her husband, Kaushal Kumar Singh, to buy and sell the newborn. 

During this time, a deal was finalized for three lakh rupees through Ishtiyak Ansari and Hasimuddin Ansari. As part of the deal, 80,000 rupees were paid through PhonePe and a check for 70,000 rupees was given. On the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dhanbad, a special raiding team was formed under the leadership of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order). 

Acting swiftly, the police arrested the four accused: Ishtiyak Ansari, Hasimuddin Ansari, Kaushal Kumar Singh, and Abhilasha Singh. The newborn baby, who was stolen on December 29, 2025, was also safely recovered.
