News Topical, Digital Desk : A court in Chandausi, Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, has ordered the registration of an FIR against the then Circle Officer (CO) Anuj Chaudhary, the then Kotwali in-charge Anuj Tomar, and unknown policemen in the Sambhal violence case. However, a senior police officer said the administration will file an appeal against the order. Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said the police will challenge the court order. He said, "An appeal will be filed and an FIR will not be registered because a judicial inquiry has already been conducted in the case."
In a post on the social media site X, it was also written from the official account of Sambhal Police – an appeal will be made in the competent court against the order given by the court.
What is the case against Anuj Chaudhary?
Let us tell you that this order against CO Anuj Chaudhary was passed by Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Vibhanshu Sudhir on January 9 on a petition filed by the father of a person injured in the violence, in which it was alleged that his son was shot by the police. According to the complaint, Yamin, a resident of Khaggu Sarai area of Nakhasa police station area, alleged that his 24-year-old son Alam had gone out to sell papad on November 24, 2024, and was shot by policemen near Shahi Jama Masjid.
The complainant named the then CO Anuj Chaudhary, the then station in-charge Anuj Tomar and 10-12 unidentified policemen as accused. After the hearing, the court on January 9 directed to register an FIR against all the accused police officers.
Advocate Chaudhry Akhtar Hussain Sajeeb said that the injured youth had sought treatment secretly from the police and the court has accepted the petition to register an FIR against the concerned police officers.
Where is Anuj Chaudhary posted now?
Anuj Chaudhary is currently posted as Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) in Firozabad, while Anuj Tomar is currently in-charge of Chandausi police station in Sambhal district. The dispute started on November 19 last year when Hindu petitioners, including lawyers Hari Shankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar Jain, filed a case in the Sambhal district court claiming that the Shahi Jama Masjid was built over the pre-existing Harihar Nath temple.
A survey was conducted on the same day on the orders of the court, followed by a second survey on November 24. Following the second survey, violence broke out in Sambhal, leaving four people dead and 29 policemen injured. The police have registered 12 FIRs in connection with the violence, naming over 2,000 people, including several political figures, including SP MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq and mosque committee head Zafar Ali.
