News Topical, Digital Desk : Now the day is not far when parents will be able to choose the eye color, hair texture and other characteristics of their future child. Apart from the debate of interfering in the rules of nature, medical science has achieved another big success in the direction of making 'designer babies'. With the help of 'Three Person In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)' technique, British scientists have given birth to eight such children who are completely free from genetic diseases.

Let us tell you that these children were born from the DNA of three people. These include four girls and four boys. One of them is a pair of twins. According to scientists from Newcastle University, these children were born to seven women who were at risk of developing serious diseases due to defects in mitochondrial DNA.

The children were completely healthy

Scientists said that all the children were completely healthy at the time of birth and their physical development was also normal. The mothers' defective DNA was either not found in the test or was found in such a small amount that the possibility of disease was negligible. In all these children, mitochondrial DNA defects were found to be negligible in the blood test after birth.

Children born through three person IVF technique

This study has been published in The New England Journal of Medicine . It states that under the three person IVF technique, the nucleus of the mother's egg and the father's sperm are transferred into the healthy egg of a third woman. Mary Herbert, the lead author of this research and professor at Newcastle University, said that mitochondrial donation technique is currently considered a process that reduces risk.

There is a ban in America

This is because during this the mother's bad DNA is not transferred into the body. But let us tell you that three person IVF technology has been banned in America. While in 2015, Britain became the first country in the world to legally approve mitochondrial donation in humans. At the same time, in the same year, it was banned from being used on humans through a law in America.

What is mitochondrial disease?

Every year, about 1 in 5,000 babies is born with a defect in mitochondrial DNA , which can lead to a number of serious illnesses, including muscle weakness, hearing and vision problems, seizures, stunted growth and heart disease. The disease is passed from mother to child, as mitochondrial DNA always comes from the mother. Although men can get sick, they do not pass it on. There is no cure for the disease yet.
