News Topical, Digital Desk : The entire JNU campus has been on fire following the violence that erupted in the Central Library on Saturday (November 22nd). This incident, which occurred in the name of protesting the new admission system, has sparked accusations and counter-accusations between student organizations. ABVP has called it an anti-student and anarchic act and has demanded strict action.
Vandalism in the library
The JNU unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has strongly condemned the incident that occurred in the library. The organization alleges that the left-wing JNUSU and its affiliated students entered the library and vandalized it in protest against the new admission system. ABVP says this is not just a protest but a deliberate attempt to disrupt the academic environment.
Dissatisfaction with the new admission system
ABVP says the new admission system was implemented without any broad consensus among students, which naturally caused resentment among many. However, according to the organization, leftist groups chose violence instead of engaging in dialogue on the issue, clearly demonstrating their goal not to address student concerns but to disrupt the environment.
Debate intensifies over entry of outsiders and seat allotment issues
Following the incident, discussions have intensified regarding the presence of outsiders on campus, complaints about seat allocation, and the administration's preparedness. ABVP says these issues can and should be debated, but violence cannot be justified under any circumstances. They allege that leftist organizations are focusing less on the actual problems of students and more on strengthening their political base.
'Time to save JNU from chaotic politics' - ABVP
ABVP stated that every time a system is implemented for the benefit of students at the university, leftist groups are ready to oppose it. The organization alleged that turning the campus into a political laboratory has been a long-standing practice of these groups. ABVP asserts that strong action against such anarchy is necessary to preserve JNU's academic tradition.
Strict action should be taken against the culprits- Mayank Panchal
ABVP JNU President Mayank Panchal has demanded immediate, strict action from the administration. He stated that the violence in the library is a direct attack on student rights and that such individuals should have no place on campus or any position. Panchal also stated that while discussions on new policies are necessary, violence is unacceptable.
This is an attack on the identity of JNU – Praveen Piyush
ABVP JNU minister Praveen Piyush said that the vandalism in the library was not merely a matter of damaging a gate or machinery. It was a direct attack on the academic culture of JNU.
He said that ABVP will continue to work for a safe and study-friendly environment for the students and will not allow any element to spoil the campus environment.
ABVP has made two key demands of the university administration: identify all those involved in the incident and take strict action against them. In the future, formal and transparent dialogue with students should be held before any new system is implemented.
The organization believes that it is most important to keep JNU a center of education and research, not a field of political conflict.
