New Delhi: In view of the irregularities and various problems in various Legends Leagues started to capitalise on the growing popularity of T-20 across the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can also start its own league of Legends players on the lines of IPL.
At present, many leagues of legends players are being played around the world, the main ones being World Championship of Legends, Global Legends League, Legends League Cricket. Many players from India including Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu play in these leagues.
Former players demanded
Many former international cricketers like Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, AB de Villiers also play in these leagues. BCCI currently organizes IPL and Women's Premier League (WPL). According to sources, recently some former Indian players met BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and urged him to organize a Legends League. Former cricketers want the Legends League to be organized like the IPL.
There should be city-based franchise teams and bidding should be done for players from all over the world. BCCI has assured to explore the possibilities on this proposal and if everything goes well, then viewers in India can also enjoy the Legends League between former great players.
BCCI confirmed
A BCCI official confirmed this and said, "We have received a proposal from former cricketers in this regard, which is being considered. However, it is still at the proposal stage." When asked if this league could happen this year, he said that no, it is not possible so soon. It can definitely be thought about next year. Those players will play in it who have retired from their country and do not even play in the IPL.
A source associated with BCCI said that if such a league starts in India, it will have a direct impact on other leagues. At present, all the leagues that are being held are being organized by some private companies with the support of various cricket boards. No cricket board is directly organizing a competition like the Legends League. The World Championship of Legends held in Birmingham in June this year was organized with the help of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

If the richest cricket board like BCCI starts its own Legends League, it will be a big step in world cricket. Former cricketers from all over the world still want to play in India. A cricketer who played in such a league told Dainik Jagran that if this happens, it will be a good step and most of the IPL franchises will also take teams in it, which will again provide a better platform to those players who have played in the IPL with their boards including India.
