News Topical, Digital Desk : The Congress party's landslide victory in the municipal elections held in Telangana on Friday further strengthened the A. Revanth Reddy-led government, while the BJP and the BSP also made their presence felt.

Of the total 2,582 wards that went to polls in 116 municipal corporations on February 11, the Congress won over 1,300, while the BRS won around 700 and the BJP around 275. In the elections held in seven municipal corporations, the Congress won three seats and was leading in one, while the BJP secured a majority in Karimnagar and Nizamabad.

The Kothagudem Municipal Corporation witnessed a close contest between the Congress and the CPI. Following hung elections in several municipalities, major parties, narrowly short of a majority, have begun efforts to secure the support of independent candidates. Counting began at 8 a.m. at 123 polling stations across the state, where tight security arrangements were in place.
