'Unity is necessary in crucial times': Jairam Ramesh
Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Ramesh said, “There has been a lapse in security and intelligence failure in this incident. But at this time we need unity, equality, collective resolve and continuous dialogue between the government and the opposition. We should stand united.”
He appealed to party leaders to refrain from making independent statements at this sensitive time, stressing, "There is no need for any statement from any other leader at this time."
The CWC resolution and the statements of top leaders are the real opinion of the party
Reacting to the controversial statements of some senior Congress leaders, Jairam Ramesh said, "Some Congress leaders, who have held important positions in the past, have expressed their personal views. The Congress Party completely distances itself from these statements. In this extremely sensitive period, only the resolution of the Congress Working Committee and the reactions given by the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha should be considered the official statement of the party."
Jairam Ramesh said that the CWC meeting was held on 24 April, in which the brutal terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam was strongly condemned. After this, on 25 April, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi presented the party's viewpoint in the all-party meeting.
'Pakistan's conspiracy, Hindus were targeted': Congress Working Committee
Jairam Ramesh reiterated that "there should be no doubt on this issue that only the Congress Working Committee resolution, the statements of Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and authorised AICC officials are the official views of the Congress Party."
The Congress Working Committee had demanded in its resolution that a thorough investigation be conducted into the failure of the intelligence system in the Pahalgam terror attack. It also said that Hindus were deliberately targeted in this attack so that an atmosphere of hatred and violence could be spread in the country. The Working Committee had also said that Pakistan was conspiring behind this barbaric attack.
