News Topical, Digital Desk : China has expressed reluctance to join the Gaza Peace Council chaired by US President Donald Trump. It said China believes any international system should operate under the aegis of the United Nations, while this council is not affiliated with the United Nations.

Italy has surprised everyone by indicating it will stay away from the Peace Council. Citing government sources, the newspaper Corriere della Sera reported this. It stated that joining the council would violate the Italian Constitution. France, Norway, and Sweden have also refused to join Trump's Peace Council. India has also received an invitation to join the council, but the government has not yet made a decision on this.

Before leaving for Davos, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to join the Peace Council. His office had previously objected to Turkiye's inclusion in the council's executive committee. Pakistan has also announced its intention to join Trump's Peace Council.

How many countries are there in the Peace Council ?

The United States has stated that 20 countries have agreed to join the Peace Council. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiaqun said, "China has always been a supporter of a truly multipolar system and fully adheres to the international order established within the framework of the United Nations."

Guo was reacting to the US President's statement in which Trump said that the United Nations is currently functioning but that the Board of Peace could replace it in the future. The Chinese spokesperson said, "No matter what kind of situation arises internationally, China will respect the international system established by the United Nations and follow its rules."

The Gaza Peace Council's rules have not yet been made public, but international affairs experts believe Trump plans to model the council on the United Nations Security Council. Diplomats believe the peace council would diminish the UN's influence globally.

A contribution of one billion dollars will have to be made

According to unconfirmed sources, a contribution of one billion dollars will be required for permanent membership of the Peace Council. On Thursday, Trump attended the ceremony marking the formation of the Peace Council in Davos, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. This council will oversee the post-ceasefire plan in Gaza. The ceasefire in Gaza is due to Trump's peace plan.
