Char Dham Yatra 2025: Devotees and pilgrims visiting Gangotri Dham in the initial days of Chardham Yatra may face some difficulty in bathing and sipping water this time. The water stream on the ghats of Gangotri Dham has gone far away from the ghats. Currently, the main stream of Ganga (Bhagirathi) is flowing at a distance of about 20 meters from the ghats, due to which devotees may face difficulty in bathing, sipping water and worshiping.
Actually, due to the change in the water level in the Ganges and the change in the flow of the river, the flow of the river has moved away from the ghats. The flow of the Ganges is passing through a lower part than the ghats. Due to this, devotees have to struggle a lot to reach the ghats. The water of the Ganges is very low on the ghats and devotees may have to pass through rocky and slippery surfaces to reach the middle of the river. Due to this, challenges may also arise in terms of safety.
What preparations are being made?
The administration and the police department have started preparations for the convenience and safety of the devotees during the Yatra. The Gangotri Temple Committee and the local administration have made efforts to make the movement of the devotees safe with the help of temporary bridges and ropes on the ghats. Apart from this, the police department has also made a plan to deploy additional soldiers on the ghats, so that any emergency situation can be dealt with.
Although the irrigation department had made efforts to supply Ganga water to the ghats before the pilgrimage, a permanent solution has not been found yet. Some temporary channels have been built to divert the main flow of the Ganga towards the ghats, but these have not yielded the desired success. According to experts, the pattern of water flow in the Gangotri region keeps changing, so every year there is some change in the condition of the ghats.
Experts say that this time the flow of Ganga has gone away from the Ghats by about 30 meters, which is more than normal. This situation has posed a new challenge in front of the administration. The pilgrimage priests have also advised
the devotees to take special precautions on the Ghats. To avoid slipping on the Ghats during the journey, devotees have been requested to go to the Ghats in groups and follow the instructions of the police and administration.
The administration has also said that during the yatra, devotees should use the alternative arrangements made for bathing and achamana. If there is difficulty in reaching the ghats, artificial kunds can be used. The temple committee is also considering a plan to arrange Ganga water in the temple premises, so that devotees can perform achamana and puja without any problem.
In the initial days of the Chardham Yatra, a huge crowd of devotees flock to Gangotri Dham. In such a situation, the Ganga being away from the ghats has become a big challenge for the travel arrangements. The administration is constantly monitoring and keeping in mind the possible dangers, strong security arrangements are being made. Devotees coming to Gangotri have been requested to be careful during the journey and follow the instructions given by the administration, so that their journey can be safe and pleasant.
