News Topical, Digital Desk : Ahead of the start of voting for the first phase of Gram Panchayat elections in Telangana, a BRS worker was killed in a clash between supporters of the ruling Congress and the opposition party in Suryapet district, police said on Wednesday.

Reacting to the incident, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao accused the Congress party of practicing "murder politics." He said, “This shows the bankruptcy of the ruling party that it is unable to face elections democratically, hence it is resorting to physical attacks.”

The altercation took place after the election campaign ended.

The incident occurred in Lingampalli village on Tuesday, after the end of election campaigning. He said an altercation between two groups escalated into an attack with sticks and stones, in which a 57-year-old man suffered head injuries.

"He was initially admitted to a hospital in Suryapet and then shifted to another hospital in Hyderabad, but was declared dead early Wednesday morning," a senior police officer said. The deceased's daughter-in-law is contesting the elections as a ward member.

The family of the deceased blamed the Congress

In a police complaint, the deceased's family alleged that he was killed in an attack by Congress supporters. The situation in the village is reportedly peaceful, and additional security forces have been deployed.

KT Rama Rao gave assurance

In a statement, Rama Rao said, "The BRS will not tolerate the excesses of Congress goons." He assured that the BRS leadership would stand with every party worker and leader and provide support to the family of the deceased worker. Rama Rao demanded that the police take strict action against those responsible for the attack.
