News Topical, Digital Desk : There's good news for drivers and vehicle owners in the state. Now, all processes, from correcting the date of birth on a driving license (DL) to transferring an old vehicle's number to a new one and temporarily terminating a permit, are online. With the implementation of the Transport Department's new revised rules, these services will be available in an easy, transparent, and timely manner through the Sarathi and Vahan portals.

The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented a new system by amending the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1998. Processes such as correcting the date of birth in a driving license, porting a vehicle registration number to a new vehicle, and temporarily deactivating a permit will now be completely online.

Under the new rules, Sarathi Portal and Vahan Portal have been officially defined, through which services related to license, registration, fitness, permit and tax will be available online.

If the date of birth on a driving license is incorrect, applicants can now apply online. Uploading a high school certificate, birth certificate, or a certificate issued by the Chief Medical Officer will be mandatory. Vehicle owners will now be able to transfer their old vehicle number to a new vehicle within one year.

An application must be made on the Vahan portal, and a certificate will be issued. Furthermore, permit holders can provide online notice for a maximum period of three months if they intend to forego using the vehicle for a period of time. This amendment has come into effect upon publication in the official gazette.
