News Topical, Digital Desk : The Supreme Court has granted bail to Shashank Goyal and his wife Bhumika Katiyar, along with Nitesh Sonwani, son of former PSC Chairman Taman Singh Sonwani, and nephew Sahil Sonwani, the main accused in the Chhattisgarh PSC scam case.

The CBI has arrested the then Chairman of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission, Taman Singh Sonwani, Director of Bajrang Power Ispat Company, Shravan Kumar Goyal, his son Shashank Goyal and daughter-in-law Bhumika Katiyar, then Deputy Controller of Examinations (CGPSC) Lalit Ganvir, Nisha Kosle, Deepa Adil, Sumit Dhruv and others in this case.

All are currently in jail. It is alleged that former Commission Chairman Taman Singh Sonwani and then-Secretaries Jeevan Kishore Dhruv, Aarti Vasnik, Lalit Ganvir, etc., misused their positions to leak exam question papers and help their relatives and acquaintances pass the PSC exams. Selected candidates were appointed to high-ranking positions such as Deputy Collector and DSP.

CBI gets investigation

In February 2024, the state government handed over the investigation to the CBI. In July last year, the CBI took over the investigation of two cases registered in Chhattisgarh alleging bias in the selection of deputy collectors, DSPs, and other senior government posts through the CGPSC during the 2020-2022 examination. According to the CBI, former chairman Sonwani manipulated the rules by replacing the word "relative" with "family" to ensure the selection of his nephews.
