News Topical, Digital Desk : For the census to be held in the year 2026 and 2027, the government has decided to take the help of web portal and mobile app. Through these platforms, citizens will be able to send their information to the government themselves. With this facility, people will be able to count themselves. This will speed up the census process. This web portal will be available for both phases of the national census. Officials said on Monday that in the country's first digital census, government representatives will collect data of citizens using apps on Android and Apple mobile phones.

This will be the first time in the country when citizens will get the opportunity to fill in their own information through a special web portal. This portal will be available for both phases of the census - House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) and Population Enumeration. An official said, "The digital census initiative is a transformational step towards modernizing the census process. For the first time, digital technology will be used to collect data and send it electronically to a central server. This will help in collecting census data quickly."

Stringent measures to protect servers

During the census, very stringent data security measures will be implemented to collect data digitally, transfer data and store it securely. HLO will start from April 1, 2026 and after that the second phase process will start from February 1, 2027, in which population enumeration will be done. The castes of the members of the household will be counted in the upcoming census. Census 2027 will start at 12 midnight on October 1, 2026 for the Union Territory of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and snow-covered inaccessible areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand. At the same time, it will start in the plains from 12 midnight on March 1, 2027.

34 lakh people will be trained

This will be the 16th census since the beginning of the census in the country and the eighth census after independence. A notification for this was issued on June 16. The Registrar General of India has arranged three levels of focused and need-based training for national trainers, master trainers and field trainers. Field trainers will train about 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors for this comprehensive exercise. The Registrar General of India has asked the states and union territories to make any proposed changes in the boundaries of administrative units before December 31. Changes made till December 31 will be considered final for the census.

Census will start from February 1, 2027

In a letter to all states and union territories, Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan had said that for the census, all villages and towns are divided into equal enumeration blocks and an enumerator is appointed for each block. This is said so that any omission or duplication can be avoided during the population census. According to the rules, the census can be done only three months after the boundary of administrative units such as district, sub-district, tehsil, taluka and police station is determined. Narayan had said that from April 1, 2026, house listing work, appointment of supervisors and enumerators and division of work among them will be done and the census will start from February 1, 2027.
