News Topical, Digital Desk : The CBI has busted a gang that allegedly provided phishing message services to cybercriminals who were luring innocent people with fake loan and investment promises. The investigating agency has arrested three operatives in connection with the case.

It conducted raids in Delhi, Noida and Chandigarh and exposed a system operating to send phishing messages, and recovered unaccounted cash, cryptocurrency and digital evidence.

What information did the officials give?

Officials said on Monday that in a preliminary investigation, the central agency identified 21,000 SIM cards that were fraudulently obtained in violation of regulations. The role of channel partners and employees of some telecom companies, who illegally arranged the SIM cards for this fraud, has also been identified.

According to a CBI statement, these SIM cards were controlled through an online platform to send mass messages. The CBI registered a case against the private firm Bhagwan Mahavir Services India Private Limited, which used the Sanchar Saathi platform to illegally operate the system, through which cyber criminals sent fraudulent messages to people across the country.

Phishing message service is a form of cyber fraud whereby cybercriminals send mass emails or messages pretending to be banks, companies, or government agencies in an attempt to steal personal information or defraud individuals.
