News Topical, Digital Desk : When Tutankhamun's tomb was opened in 1922, everyone was shocked. Shortly after, strange incidents came to light - many people who opened the tomb died mysteriously. This led to the rumor of "Pharaoh's Curse", which said that anyone who would disturb the tombs of the Egyptian pharaohs or rulers would have to face misfortune, illness or death. It  sounds quite terrifying, right, but what if we say that this curse can prove to be a boon? In fact, a study has revealed that a dangerous fungus that grows in these tombs can help in the treatment of cancer (Deadly Fungus Can Help Fight Cancer).

What was the secret behind the curse of the Pharaohs?

Scientists believe that this was not a curse, but a dangerous fungus that grew in ancient graves. When the graves were opened hundreds of years later, the spores of a fungus called Aspergillus flavus present in them spread in the air. These can enter the body of the people who open the grave through breathing and cause infection, especially in those whose immunity is weak.

Scientists also believe that Lord Carnavon, who played a key role in finding Tutankhamun's tomb, may have also suffered from pneumonia caused by this fungus, which led to his death. In this way, the "curse of the Pharaohs" was actually just a natural phenomenon, which people mistook for a curse.

How can a dangerous fungus help treat cancer?

Recently, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have made a surprising discovery. They found that certain compounds present in Aspergillus flavus have the ability to destroy cancer cells.

What is special in this research?

Researchers isolated four new peptides called asperigimycins from this fungus. These peptides stop cancer cells from growing, which has brought a new ray of hope in the treatment of cancer.

A curse turned into a ray of hope

If this fungus proves to be helpful in future trials, then this research can prove to be a milestone in the treatment of cancer. The fungus that was considered the "curse of the Pharaohs" is today raising hopes for the treatment of diseases like cancer.

However, more studies are being done on the compounds obtained from this fungus and it is possible that in the future this fungus may bring a revolution in cancer treatment.
