News Topical, Digital Desk : Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had previously announced the construction of a Mahakal temple in Matigara. The state cabinet has taken a major step toward implementing that project. The construction of the temple was approved at a cabinet meeting on Monday.

After the cabinet meeting, Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya said that a total of 25.15 acres of land in Matigara's Lakshmi Township will be taken over by the government from leaseholders. Of this, 17.41 acres will be transferred to the Tourism Department through the Land and Land Resources Department. The remaining land will be given to the Tourism Department gradually. A large tourism center will be built around the Mahakal Temple.

A convention center will be built on 10 acres of land in Dabgram Mouza. The state government plans to develop this area of ​​North Bengal as a destination with great potential for tourism and trade by connecting it to Asian Highway 2.

New roads will be built on a large scale in rural and urban areas

The cabinet meeting approved the construction of new roads under the Pathashree scheme. Chandrama stated that under this scheme, approximately 20,030 km of new roads will be constructed in both rural and urban areas of the state. 15,011 km of new roads will be constructed in rural areas. Of these, approximately 9,000 km of new roads have already been completed. Similarly, 5,030 km of new roads will be constructed in urban areas, and 11,365 km of roads will be renovated.

Allocation for 'Banglar Bari' project further increased

The Finance Minister also approved the process for allocating funds for the second phase of the Banglar Bari project. He stated that in the second phase, the state government will provide the first installment of the scheme to 1,636,522 beneficiaries, and the process of allocating funds to beneficiaries will be completed by January 15th. 

The state government had previously planned to allocate funds in December, but various administrative work in the state has delayed this process. However, he assured that the scheme amount will be transferred to the bank accounts of all beneficiaries by January 15th. He stated that in the first phase of the Banglar Bari scheme, the state government has allocated ₹120,000 in two installments to approximately 1.2 million beneficiaries.

10 more industrial parks to be built in the state

The government has decided to expand industrial infrastructure across the state under the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation to boost employment. Minister Chandrima said a total of eight new industrial parks will be built, including in Kalyani (Nadia), Howrah, Bishnupur, and Falta, and two more in Cooch Behar. Furthermore, the cabinet also approved allocating land to the Industrial Development Corporation in Uluberia, Bishnupur, Falta, Kalyani, and Cooch Behar to further industrialization.

Before returning to Kolkata after touring disaster-hit North Bengal and distributing relief, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that she wanted to build a new Mahakal Temple on a plain similar to the one on the Mall in Darjeeling. She also requested a site near Siliguri for the project. Mamata stated that the temple would feature the largest Shiva idol in the world.
