News Topical, Digital Desk : China on Thursday declared its oil imports from Russia completely legitimate and warned the US of retaliatory measures if it imposed unilateral sanctions affecting Beijing's interests. Speaking to reporters, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the US's approach amounted to unilateral bullying and economic pressure.

China declares Russian oil imports legal

It undermines international trade rules and threatens industrial and supply chain security. Lin Jian said that China's normal trade and energy cooperation with countries around the world , including Russia, is legitimate. He was responding to a question regarding US President Donald Trump 's claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured him not to buy oil from Russia and now it is time for China to do the same. Lin Jian said, China has always taken an objective and fair stance on the Ukraine crisis.

America warned of retaliation

Our policy is open and transparent to all. We strongly oppose the US action of imposing this issue on China. We firmly oppose the imposition of unilateral sanctions on China. If China's legitimate rights and interests are harmed, we will take strong countermeasures to safeguard our sovereignty , development, and security. According to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air , China is the largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels. In addition to oil, China is also a major importer of Russian gas. It imports gas from Russia through cross-border pipelines .
