News Topical, Digital Desk : British star Hugh Grant said on Saturday that his father was born in the northern region of the Indian subcontinent, which may now be in Pakistan, joking that this makes him half Indian.

The British star, known for romantic films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Love Actually, was addressing an event organised by a media house. " My father was a soldier. He was born in India. I had to find his birth certificate and it was really difficult. He was from a small town somewhere in the north of India. He might be in Pakistan now, " Grant, 65, said.

When did Grant come to India for the first time?

Grant also recalled his first visit to India in 1988, when he came to Kolkata (then Calcutta) to shoot "La Nuit Bengali" (The Bengali Night) . "I shot a very artistic film, French, 'La Nuit Bengali', in Kolkata in 1988. I really enjoyed being in Kolkata,"
