News Topical, Digital Desk : On Friday (October 17, 2025), around 30 to 35 female students in Saharsa, Bihar, fell ill after receiving HPV injections. Some fainted. The incident occurred at Aran Middle School in the Satar Kataiya block. As soon as their health deteriorated, a commotion erupted in the school. Family members and school staff rushed them to Sadar Hospital. 

Chaos erupted at Sadar Hospital when all the sick students arrived at the hospital. Among the students admitted were Tarana Khatoon, Priyanka, Rani Kumari, Ritu Kumari, Shivrani Kumari, Pooja, Anjali Kumari, Ajmeri, Siki Kumari, and Sonakshi Kumari. 

In this case, Mohammad Yusuf, a relative of a student, said that a team of doctors visited the school and told them that all the children would receive an injection, which cures many diseases. When the injection was given to the children, one girl fainted. When the second child was given the injection, she also fainted.

It was reported that approximately 30-35 girls fainted in this manner. The injections were administered with the principal's permission. He should have understood that when a girl fainted after receiving one injection, he should have stopped it. 

District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar rushed to the scene after receiving the information. He explained the situation and explained that the girls were supposed to receive HPV, an injection for cervical cancer. Around 15 girls had come. The doctor said they would recover very soon.

What is HPV injection?

Cervical cancer vaccination is being administered worldwide to protect against the human papillomavirus (HPV). The HPV virus increases the risk of developing cancer in women's uterus and private parts. Therefore, girls are advised to get the cervical cancer vaccination after their first menstrual period to prevent future cancer infections. This vaccination is given to girls aged 9 to 14 years.
