News Topical, Digital Desk : New Criminal Laws: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired an important review meeting in Delhi on Monday (May 5) to discuss the implementation of 3 new criminal laws in the national capital. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta were also present in this meeting.

In the meeting, the current status of various new provisions related to police, jail, prosecution, forensic and judiciary and their implementation was reviewed. Senior officials of the Home Ministry and Delhi Government, including the Union Home Secretary, Delhi Chief Secretary, Police Commissioner, Director General of BPR&D and Director of NCRB were present on the occasion.

Accountability of police force will increase - Amit Shah
In his address, the Home Minister said that the 3 new criminal laws being implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give a new direction to the law and order of the country. He said that these laws will increase the accountability and efficiency of the police force. Amit Shah also directed that the responsibilities of all officers should be clearly defined to make the implementation of the laws smooth.

Chargesheet should be filed within 60 to 90 days - Amit Shah
Amit Shah specifically emphasized that the process of filing chargesheet in criminal cases should be completed within the stipulated time frame of 60 to 90 days and it should also be continuously monitored. He said that efforts should be made to increase the conviction rate in heinous crimes by at least 20 percent.

E-summons should be issued directly from the court - Amit Shah
The Home Minister gave instructions to make the e-summons system more effective. He said that e-summons should be issued directly from the court and a copy of it should also be sent to the concerned police stations. Apart from this, he talked about speeding up the process of appointments in the Prosecution Directorate and also handing over the authority of decisions related to appeals to the Directorate.
