
News Topical, Digital Desk : Normal life remained unaffected in most parts of the country due to the nationwide strike called by several trade unions to protest against the labour policies of the Central Government.

Some sporadic incidents of violence were reported from Bengal. But trade unions claimed that the strike was successful and a large number of workers did not report for work, affecting the postal, banking, insurance and mining sectors.
The nationwide strike remained peaceful by and large. But there were reports of violence in various parts of Bengal after clashes between Left activists, police and Trinamool Congress supporters.
There was a shutdown-like situation in many areas of the country
A platform of ten trade unions said in its statement that bandh-like situation prevailed in many areas of the country like Puducherry, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Kerala, Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Goa, Meghalaya and Manipur.
Partial shutdowns were also reported from parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Industrial and sectoral strikes were also witnessed in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat, it said.
Last year, a 17-point memorandum of demands was submitted to Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya
They had called for a one-day strike in support of the demands of farmers' organizations for repeal of four labor codes, abolition of contractualization and privatization of public enterprises, minimum wage of Rs 26,000 per month, minimum support price for crops based on the Swaminathan Commission's C2 plus 50 percent formula and loan waiver for farmers. This forum had submitted a 17-point charter of demands to Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya last year.
