News Topical, Digital Desk : The new figures that emerged after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR-2026) process in Bhadohi district, Uttar Pradesh, have heated up the political scene throughout the district. The final list, released by District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar, has not only surprised political parties but has also become a major topic of discussion among the general public.

The most significant is that the 2026 voter list shows a clear decline in voter turnout in all three assembly constituencies compared to 2025. As a result, all parties are beginning to formulate their own strategies for the upcoming elections.

Assembly wise voter turnout decreased, figures shocking

If we look at the assembly-wise data, the number of voters has decreased in all three seats. In the Bhadohi (392) assembly constituency, where there were 443,116 voters in 2025, this number dropped to 395,243 in 2026. This means there were 47,873 fewer voters, a decline of approximately 10.80 percent.

In the Gyanpur (393) Assembly constituency, the number of voters dropped from 403,582 in 2025 to 361,331. This represents a 10.47 percent decrease of 42,251 voters. A similar trend was observed in the Aurai (SC) constituency. In 2025, the number of voters dropped from 386,626 to 349,615, representing a decrease of 37,011 voters, representing a 9.57 percent decrease. These figures clearly indicate a significant change in the voter list this time.

The total number of voters in the district crossed 11 lakh.

Although there is a decline at the assembly level, the total voter count in the district has reached 1,106,189 as of the last publication. By gender, there are 599,497 male voters in the district, while 506,642 are female voters. Fifty transgender voters are also included in the list.

The Bhadohi Assembly constituency has 214,149 male, 181,073 female, and 21 transgender voters. Gyanpur has 195,438 male, 165,869 female, and 24 transgender voters. Aurai (SC) has 189,910 male, 159,700 female, and 5 transgender voters. These figures also reflect the changing demographic picture of the district.

During this special revision campaign, several major steps were taken to ensure the voter list was clean and accurate. Approximately 83,332 new voters were added, while 4,147 names were removed from the list, including those who died, relocated, duplicates, and other reasons.

Additionally, the names and addresses of 16,816 voters were corrected. Interestingly, when the preliminary list was released on January 6, 2026, the total number of voters was 1,027,004, which increased to 1,106,189 by the time of the final publication.

There are 11,093 people above 80 years of age in the district, but there are 15,043 such names registered in the voter list, which in itself can become a subject of investigation.

The 2022 elections have increased their importance.

These new figures are all the more significant because the margin of victory and defeat in the 2022 assembly elections was very narrow. Zahid Beg of the Samajwadi Party won the Bhadohi seat, while Ravindranath Tripathi of the BJP lost by just 4,885 votes.

In Gyanpur, Vipul Dubey of the Nishad Party (BJP alliance) won, and Ramkishore Bind of the SP lost by 6,231 votes. In Aurai (SC), the BJP's Dinanath Bhaskar won for the second consecutive time, but even here the margin was only 1,647 votes, with the SP's Anjani Saroj coming in a close second. This is why even small changes to the voter list can have significant political implications this time.

Political rhetoric intensifies, with varying claims

Following the release of the SIR-2026 list, reactions from all political parties have emerged, with each party viewing it in its own light. BJP District President Deepak Mishra called it a major achievement. He said that this process has removed fake voters and that only genuine voters will now be able to cast their votes. He also praised the Election Commission and the administration.

Samajwadi Party District President Pradeep Yadav said that while the process was lengthy, the party is satisfied with the final list. He also advised the Election Commission to conduct fair elections.

Congress District President Waseem Ansari said the party is reviewing the list thoroughly. Election preparations have begun based on this list, and a clear consensus will emerge soon.

BSP district president JP Gautam described the process as completely fair and said that those whose names were left out will be added in the future. Meanwhile, SP candidate from Aurai, Anjani Saroj, said that she had previously protested the deletion of her supporters' votes. A booth-level investigation is now underway, and only after that will the situation become clear.

What impact will it have on the upcoming elections?

These figures, emerging after SIR-2026 in Bhadohi district, clearly indicate that the upcoming elections will be more interesting and challenging than ever before. The decline in voter turnout and the entry of new voters have completely changed the electoral mathematics. While parties are claiming this as a positive outcome, opposition parties are raising questions.

Most importantly, the last election saw very narrow margins of victory and defeat. Therefore, even a small change in the voter list this time could have significant political consequences.
