News Topical, Digital Desk : A 70-year-old man died in Bengal's Nadia district on Monday and his family has alleged that he died due to anxiety related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bengal.

The police gave this information. Police said that the deceased has been identified as Shyamal Kumar Saha, a resident of Krishnachakpur Mandalpara in Tahirpur police station area.

Police said family members claimed that Shyamal had stopped eating and drinking after learning that his name was not in the 2002 voters' list.

He also claimed that he had all the valid documents. We have received information about the death, but no official report has been filed by the family.

The family told SIR the cause of death

According to the police, investigation revealed that despite having all the valid documents including voter ID card, Aadhar card, PAN card and property papers, Shyamal was scared ever since the announcement of SIR of the voter list.

His wife said he barely ate and was constantly worried. Local Trinamool Congress leaders and panchayat members visited Shyamal's family. Shyamal was a street vendor.

Trinamool Congress accuses Election Commission

The SIR of voter lists is underway in West Bengal after a gap of 23 years. The last SIR in the state was conducted in 2002. According to police, since the SIR was announced, several people in Bengal have allegedly committed suicide due to fear of being excluded from the voter list during the revision.

The Trinamool Congress alleges that panic caused by the SIR process initiated by the Election Commission has put many people in trouble. The BJP has dismissed this allegation as politically motivated.
