The death of ASI Sandeep Kumar is unfortunate - Manohar Lal Khattar

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, after meeting the bereaved family in Rohtak on Thursday (October 16), said that Chief Minister Nayab Saini has assured his wife a job and will also take care of the children's education. He described the alleged suicides of Inspector General of Police Puran Kumar and Sandeep Kumar a week later as extremely unfortunate.

Manohar Lal Khattar also mentioned IPS Puran Kumar.

Referring to the death of Puran Kumar on October 7, he said, "Unfortunately, in the first incident, some politicians tried to give it a political and casteist twist, which is not appropriate. This is the second incident (Sandeep Kumar's death). I appeal to both families and the community not to make this issue a matter of community or caste, and not to allow it to be politicized."

What allegations did ASI Sandeep make in the suicide note?

In a six-minute video and "suicide note," Sandeep Kumar alleged that Puran Kumar committed suicide "to avoid family disgrace" and that his family's assets should be investigated. Puran Kumar (52), recently posted as Inspector General at the Police Training Centre in Sunaria, Rohtak, was found dead at his Chandigarh residence with gunshot wounds. His last rites were performed in Chandigarh on Wednesday (October 15).

The body of ASI Sandeep was found on October 14.

On Tuesday, Sandeep Kumar's body was recovered from a room on a relative's farm along the Ladhaut-Dhamar Road in Rohtak. According to police sources, ASI Sandeep Kumar played a role in the arrest of Head Constable Sushil Kumar, who was the PSO of Inspector General Puran Kumar. The deceased IG's name had recently surfaced in a bribery scandal.

The case stems from a bribery complaint filed by a liquor contractor against Head Constable Sushil Kumar. The contractor alleged that Sushil Kumar, while posted in Rohtak, demanded ₹2.5 lakh in Puran Kumar's name. Kumar, a 2001-batch officer, was known for his interference in matters related to officer rights, seniority, and other issues. Chandigarh Police has formed a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Puran Kumar case.
