
News Topical, Digital Desk : Another two-year-old child died in Bharatpur on Thursday after consuming dextromethorphan hydrobromide, a cough medicine distributed in government hospitals under the Rajasthan government's free medicine scheme. Earlier, a five-year-old child died in Sikar district.
Meanwhile, 12 children fell ill in Banswara, Sikar, and Bharatpur districts. Three medical staff, including a primary health center doctor in Bharatpur, also fell ill after consuming the drug. On Wednesday, the government banned the distribution of the drug. Samples of the drug have been sent for testing.
According to reports, 40 samples from the Kaysons company, which manufactured and supplied the medicine to the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation, failed in two years. These included medicines for coughs, colds, and flu. Samples were collected from ten districts. Yet, the state government did not ban the medicine.
