News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid tensions with the United States, Iran has begun exploring the possibility of peace talks. Iran's Foreign Ministry has indicated that both sides understand the gravity of the situation and anticipate a potential regional war.
In such a situation, Iran and America are looking for a diplomatic way to start talks again on the nuclear dispute.
According to sources, US Special Envoy Steve Wittcalf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to meet in Turkiye on Friday. Leaders from countries such as Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt are also expected to attend the meeting.
The US Navy's increased presence in the Middle East in recent weeks has further heightened the situation. US President Donald Trump has demanded concessions from Iran regarding its nuclear program, a demand Tehran has denounced as an interference with its sovereignty. Iran maintains that the lifting of economic sanctions is a primary condition for negotiations.
Diplomatic sources believe that Iran's ballistic missile program, more than uranium enrichment, is becoming a major obstacle in the talks. The US has set conditions such as zero enrichment, a halt to its missile program, and an end to support for regional allies, all of which Iran has long rejected.
However, some Iranian officials have indicated that in the event of a deal, it could show flexibility on options such as sending its stockpile of highly enriched uranium abroad or a temporary pause.
According to ANI, US allies in the Persian Gulf have warned Washington that Iran's missile capabilities remain a serious threat to US bases and regional security. Estimates indicate that Iran still possesses short-range missiles, launchers, and production infrastructure, posing a threat to US troops deployed in the Gulf region. Some Gulf countries have also expressed hesitation regarding the military use of their territory or airspace.
Recent satellite imagery has revealed signs of partial repair work at nuclear sites like Isfahan and Natanz. Experts believe this could indicate preparations for potential attacks or a shift of resources. The United Nations nuclear watchdog has previously demanded clear information from Iran on its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
EU ambassador summoned over Revolutionary Guard terrorist designation
According to the Associated Press, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told Sowar that the European Union's ambassador to Iran was summoned to protest the designation of the country's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist group.
However, Iran also declared the EU military a terrorist organization on Sunday in protest of this move. Meanwhile, Iranian police have detained four foreign nationals on charges of spreading instability in the country. However, information about their nationality has not been shared. According to state media, four grenades were also found with the accused.
