News Topical, Digital Desk : Zubair Hungergekar, a software engineer from Pune, Maharashtra, has been arrested for alleged links to al-Qaeda and other banned organizations. A teacher from Thane has been questioned as part of the investigation.
In fact, arrested engineer Zubair Hungargekar had used the teacher's home in Mumbra, Thane district, for a meeting. In response, ATS officials visited the teacher's home on Tuesday and questioned Hungargekar about the meeting. They said the teacher is neither an accused nor a witness in the case.
These items were found during the house search.
The ATS had told a Pune court earlier this month that Hungergekar allegedly used to deliver religious sermons in an "aggressive" manner in the city's Kondhwa area. During a search of the house, the ATS seized mobile phones containing deleted PDF files titled "Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and All Its Manifestations," the ATS said.
Arrested on October 27
It is worth noting that Zubair Hungergekar was arrested on October 27 for his alleged links to banned organizations like al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent and his suspected involvement in radical activities. During the investigation, the ATS found a Pakistani contact number saved on his old phone.
Five international phone numbers
The ATS also stated that during the search, an old phone belonging to Hungergekar was recovered from a person. Upon examining the phone's contact list, five international phone numbers were found saved: one from Pakistan, two from Saudi Arabia, and one each from Kuwait and Oman. However, the ATS stated that the phone's call detail records did not reflect any calls to these saved numbers.
Osama bin Laden's speech
The ATS also recovered an Urdu translation of a speech given by al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden on Eid al-Fitr during the investigation. Additionally, a magazine titled "Inspire" was found, containing photographs of AK-47 training at the OSG Gun School, and documents from the OSG Bomb School detailing the process of making IEDs using acetone peroxide.
