Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, best known for his film career, has emerged as a successful businessman. In a recent interview with NDTV Profit, Oberoi opened up about his unique journey to amassing a fortune of ₹1,200 crore and revealed some interesting insights beyond the glitz and glamour of cinema.

Learn business tricks from the recipient

Oberoi explained that his approach to money isn't limited to just making money. He said, "I don't believe in making money overnight, I believe in building relationships with money." The actor recalled how his fascination with money began at a young age. He learned basic economic principles from a paanwala outside college, studied stock management and financing. Oberoi said, "It was like the 'dolphin version' of microfinancing, partnership-based and flexible. I was getting 6-7% returns on my money every month, which was fantastic."

Vivek also trained with a stock market broker and learned the tricks of trading. However, he admitted that entering the film industry slowed down his business endeavors a bit. "For a while, I was just earning money by cutting ribbons and attending weddings," he said. Oberoi also spoke openly about his initial investment mistakes. At the age of 17-18, he invested all his savings in a business without proper knowledge, which resulted in the loss of approximately 60-70% of his accumulated portfolio within two and a half years. "It was a big lesson," he said. "After that, I never made any hasty decisions."

Vivek has invested in several businesses, including real estate, education tech, jewelry, and liquor. He is also the co-founder of Solitario. Today, Vivek Oberoi's businesses employ over 1,000 people and, through the Vivek Foundation, he is actively involved in social causes, including education and women's empowerment. He is married to Priyanka Alva and has two children. He considers his family his source of strength.
