News Topical, Digital Desk : Air India is renovating the faucet control modules on most of its Dreamliner aircraft following a directive from the US Federal Aviation Administration to prevent water leaks that could damage the aircraft's electronic components.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on February 2 issued an Airworthiness Directive (AD) for certain Boeing 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10 aircraft, also known as the Dreamliner. An earlier AD was issued in January 2024 regarding the potential for water leakage from the faucet control module on 787 aircraft. Tata Group-owned Air India currently has 33 Boeing 787 aircraft in its fleet, including 26 older 787-8 aircraft.
Sources said Air India has begun making the necessary modifications to the faucet control modules on most of its Boeing 787 aircraft following the FAA's directive. More than half of the Boeing 787 aircraft have been modified. However, it was not known how many aircraft have been modified. There was no official comment from Air India or Boeing.
