News Topical, Digital Desk : Aviation regulator DGCA on Monday said an Air India flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi on Sunday was diverted to Chennai due to a suspected fault in the weather radar. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it was suspected that the flight was diverted to Chennai due to a fault in the weather radar.

An Air India flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi had to make an emergency landing at Chennai airport late Sunday night. Five MPs including Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal were on board the plane. Venugopal had said that when Air India flight AI 2455 attempted to land, there was already another plane on the runway. Due to this, the landing had to be stopped once.

The crew followed the protocol

After circling, the landing was successful in the second attempt. In response, Air India said that there was no aircraft on the runway at that time. The crew of the Thiruvananthapuram-Delhi flight followed the protocol. As a precautionary measure, it was decided to divert the flight to Chennai.

Tagging Air India's response to Venugopal's post, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said, "Venugopal claims that an Air India flight had to abort landing once in Chennai because there was another plane on the runway and the airline denies it. It is clear that one of them is misrepresenting facts."

If the allegations are true, Chennai ATC and Air India will have to answer. Otherwise, Venugopal will have to face the consequences. Venugopal on Monday alleged that Air India was lying about the possible security lapse on the runway of Chennai airport. He also demanded an impartial investigation of the incident from DGCA. Meanwhile, according to ANI, another MP K. Suresh, who was traveling in this plane, also demanded an investigation.
