Tracks get damaged during monsoon
Every year during monsoon, railway tracks are damaged due to land slides and water logging in the Northeast. Due to this, these areas remain cut off from the rest of the country for a long time. Tracks are damaged in Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and Southern Assam.
The Northeast Frontier Railway had cancelled, diverted and short-terminated several trains following the rains and landslides. Goods trains carrying petroleum products and food grains were dispatched to Tripura and South Assam.
It is expected that rail services on the Lumpur-New Haflong rail section will be fully restored on Monday. The Lumding-Badarpur hill section in Assam's Dima Hasao district has also been restored.
