On Tuesday (March 17, 2026), he first issued a letter announcing this and then outlined his future agenda in a media interaction. Reactions have now begun to emerge from the JDU.
On Wednesday (March 18, 2026), JDU National Executive President Sanjay Jha said, "KC Tyagi ji has not resigned. He has not renewed his membership. He has spoken to us personally... and after discussing it within the party, he has taken this decision... and is possibly joining another party within the NDA."

Meanwhile, JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, "KC Tyagi has not resigned because he deviates from any party's policies. He said that he has respect for Nitish Kumar. Meanwhile, today (Wednesday), JDU leader KC Tyagi once again stated his decision. He said, "I am the founder of Janata Dal (United)... Five people—George Fernandes, Sharad Yadav, Nitish Kumar, myself, and Digvijay Singh—formed the party. I did not participate in the membership drive this time, and my relationship with Nitish Kumar and the Bihar JDU will remain the same..."
Responding to a question, he said, "I didn't try for a Rajya Sabha ticket. Even in 2013, Nitish Kumar called me from home and gave me a ticket. My supporters have scheduled a meeting on March 22nd. Further details will be decided there." Regarding the resignation of Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi, he said, "The Congress party is on its decline. Due to poor leadership and wrong policies, it is steadily sinking into oblivion."
