News Topical, Digital Desk : The Election Commission of India has announced a thorough revision of voter lists ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar held a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital, Delhi, on Monday, October 27th. The Samajwadi Party has issued its first reaction to the SIR announcement in Uttar Pradesh. Dimple Yadav, wife of SP chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and MP from Mainpuri, has questioned the government's intentions. 

SP MP Dimple Yadav said that if the Election Commission wants to conduct an SIR, then let it do so. If those in power want an SIR, it will be followed. Dimple Yadav also questioned what the government's intentions are behind the SIR. The government's intentions are unclear. The government is attempting to undermine the democratic setup.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said on the SIR ( SIR) that the decision taken by the Election Commission of India is welcome, and that only those who qualify should be included in the voter list. Identifying those who are foreign citizens and have become voters for some reason is a welcome step.

It should be noted that the second phase of SIR will be conducted in 12 states/union territories. These 12 states include West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Gujarat, Goa, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that printing and training for the second phase of SIRs will take place from October 28 to November 3, 2025. House enumeration forms will then be distributed from November 4 to December 4. Draft electoral rolls will then be published on December 9, 2025. The deadline for filing objections and claims will be from December 9, 2025, to January 8, 2026. The notice phase will be from December 9, 2025, to January 31, 2026, and the final electoral roll will be published by February 7, 2026.
