News Topical, Digital Desk : Following Nepal, a large number of Gentiles in the African country of Madagascar have taken to the streets and begun protests. Anger erupted over water shortages and they are demanding the government's resignation. Meanwhile, Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina has fled the country.

The opposition leader, the military, and foreign diplomats in Madagascar have confirmed the news. This is the second time, after Nepal, that a Gen-G has successfully effected a change of power.

The Leader of the Opposition confirmed

Madagascar's opposition leader, Siteni, said an army unit joined the Gen-G protesters on Sunday, prompting President Andry to leave the country.

According to Siteni,

After receiving information about the President's departure, we called the Rashtrapati Bhavan staff. They confirmed that Andrey had fled the country without informing anyone. However, the Rashtrapati Bhavan has not yet issued a formal statement on this matter.

The President addressed the nation

Addressing the public on Facebook late Monday night, he said he had moved to a safe place to save his wife's life. However, he did not disclose his whereabouts. He said he would not let Madagascar be destroyed.

Reuters, citing sources, reported that President Andry fled the country on a French military plane. Madagascar was formerly a French colony. However, French President Emmanuel Macron said he had no information on the matter.

Why did the protest start?

It should be noted that, following the Gen-G movement in Nepal and Kenya, on September 25th, young people in Madagascar also attacked the government, citing water and electricity shortages. The military also supported the protesters, further complicating President Andry's problems. The protesters continued to demand Andry's resignation.
